Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
