The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure Regarding Size Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's clothes failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Social Media Response
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Updates
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
A different user, located in England, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
